PRECON: Resistance Training Recommendations during Mid-Adulthood

This workshop will provide attendees with knowledge and skills enabling them to design safe, effective, and enjoyable resistance exercise programs for enhancing physical health, fitness, function and performance in clients throughout the lifespan. Participants will learn about the origins of metabolic, musculoskeletal and cardiorespiratory conditions and the consequent impact of poor muscular fitness on skill acquisition, physical activity tolerance, and functional performance. Attendees will learn how to apply current resistance training guidelines safely while addressing the developmental and functional needs of middle adulthood and late adulthood. They will receive resistance exercise program design guidance and be able to practice specific exercises and teaching techniques in small groups designed to enhance movement competency in middle aged and elderly adults. Pete will teach participants how apply the concepts from this workshop to the design of resistance training programs that enhance their clients’ overall physical well- being and quality of life.
