Activity trackers (Fitbits, Jawbone Up's, Vivofit, etc) are taking the fitness industry by storm. Which activity tracker do you buy? How do tracking physical activity, food, and sleep complement and enhance the coaching/training of clients? Generate ideas on how to integrate activity trackers into your movement/fitness programming through understanding the research related to the use of activity trackers for fitness/lifestyle coaching. Much of the research is focused on their accuracy. This session will focus more on the behavioral aspect of activity tracking.
1) Learn the research on the use of activity trackers for fitness programming, incentives, and other program uses. Apply this information to physical activity and movement programs.
2) Evaluate and learn about specific activity tracker devices and applications (i.e. pedometers, FitBit, JawboneUp, Vivofit)
3) Review a specific research project on the use of activity trackers in a workplace wellness setting.
